Learn to fly a helicopter? Become a helicopter pilot? Our helicopter pilot training program is ready for you.
You want to fly with passengers in any type of helicopter, but only privately or for your own use (unpaid)?
The PPL(H) license is meant for pilots who have no commercial intentions with their helicopter license, but want to fly with friends, family, customers, ...
Obtaining a PPL(H) license is also the first step in further training toward CPL(H).
Conditions PPL(H) training
- Minimum age 16 years
- Passed Class 2 medical examination (not yet required to take theory)
- No prior knowledge required, for each level of study
Theory PPL(H) training helicopter
As the only helicopter school, we teach our theory classes in HYBRID LEARNING
Classes take place twice a week, from 7pm to 10pm via an online video platform. LIVE LESSES: you can ask questions and follow the lessons interactively. 1 x per month (on Saturdays) we also organize 'physical' lessons at a central location, during which the material is briefly gone over and repeated again.
After the theory lessons, you take a written exam at FPS Mobility in Brussels (on computer) or at CBR in the Netherlands.

Practical training PPL(H) helicopter
We fly the practical training for the PPL(H) helicopter in the Robinson R22, Robinson R44 or the Airbus EC120B. To obtain the PPL(H) license, a student pilot must fly at least 45 flight hours of training. In practice, we see that an average of about 60 flight hours is more realistic to pass the practical exam smoothly.
Becoming a helicopter pilot is done at your own pace. The turnaround time from start to licensure is one year on average, but can be faster. It depends on your own abilities and time commitment.
Who are we as a helicopter school?
Since 2009, more than 150 pilots were trained in our accredited ATO / DTO training organization. Every year we organize one or more courses of theory PPL(H) for obtaining a helicopter pilot's license.
We invested in modern professional streaming equipment and are the only provider offering Hybrid Learning classes, where you take most of the classes live & online from home.
helicopterflights.be has several locations to conduct your practical lessons: near Antwerp (Hoevenen), at the heliport in Knokke-Heist and at the airport of Sint-Truiden.
Practice PPL(H) training
You will fly a minimum of 45 flying hours with an instructor (or solo under supervision). The practical lessons are scheduled according to your schedule and possibilities: also in weekends and on Sundays and holidays.
As soon as you are ready, you will take the practical exam with an examiner from DGLV.
